Not sure if this is done or over done.
I wanted to give the feeling that you’re watching a fireworks display made of rabid monkey spirits.

Departure

December 29th, 2005 in paintings

24″ x 30″, Oil on canvas painting for Yesterland, a show I had with Cameron earlier in the fall in Ottawa. I used a size 2 and 4 filbert brush for the whole thing (to you not “down” with brush-and-paint tactics, these are quite small).
My series for the show has to do with ironic evolution, nature & technology, and other themes and ideas heavy-laden with subtle and not-so-subtle symbolism… more to come (I’ve continued this line of paintings after the show was taken down).

front street december 2005

This is the St. Lawrence Market and some random building on Front St. nearby. Ilya and thought it would be a good idea to go out and draw some buildings, but it being only 3 degrees Celcius, it proved to be more difficult than we thought and decided to turn back after only two drawings.

Things

Seeing how my family celebrates the commie christmas which is the new years, rob’s away,so is my gf, and just about everyone are away being harassed by relatives, ive been home for a couple of days enjoying doing nothing. Also i rented an awesome/terrifying blacksploitation kungfu movie called “The Black Samurai”. It has Jim Kelly - the professional agent and tennis player battling The Warlock, his vultures, midgets, and high priestess Synne.

So on the first sketch its Joze Raul(or some other very spanish name, i forget) - the Warrior Pimp, Synne the High Priestess, and a fighting midget cowboy.

Also there is a sketch of Clark Gable (i just copied it from a magazine pic entitled “The Male Eyebrow”) and two small Queen Victorias
