Is it getting hot in here...

Gee whiz, but hasn’t it been pretty balmy lately? In the spirit of global warming, I submit this topical piece / homework for Friday’s class.

I know it’s not exactly the coolest (hah!) illo ever, but I just finished it and I can post whatever I want!!!

Whoooopppeeeee.

An illustration of a woman I had a dream of once. She was a heroine addict but oh so beautiful. Alarm bells went off.

Comps for Paintings I plan on doing… or maybe not.

January 31st, 2006 in illustration + digital + oddities + concepts + designs

Hi there!
These are some comps for a commission I was offered by Mike Niven Interior Design…but the commission ended up falling through at the last minute. Booo.. So now i have all these comps (and this isn’t all of them)
I still would like to paint one of them just cause…or maybe a few of them.. or.. all of them!!
I don’t know which ones though. maybe you could help..

Also, while I’ve been known to paint just about anything.. I’m not too sure about how to go about doing some of these, as far as method and medium. I almost for sure want them on canvas.. really BIG. They were designed for a 4 foot by 6 foot canvas..

How would you go about painting the brown one?… lots of masking and semi transparent layers of paint.. i would think..
and the one that looks like a circuit board.. any thoughts on how you would paint that?

It’s cool to see all you guys on here! thanks Rob for crating this great forum/blog that brings us all together again.

Rocking chair

January 30th, 2006 in illustration

I painted this dude for a chairity auction coming in a few months. The artists involved have to paint on old antique-like furniture. I’m glad I picked a small piece. I can just imagine how long it would take to paint an armoire.

Children’s book early sketch

Space girl comp

This is an entirely non-political early sketch of a character for a children’s book I’m going to be illustrating. She might not end up looking like this, and no, the space helmet was actually not my idea. The direction this might take is still pretty LIBERAL.
ahem.

The Process

A piece for my Visual Narrative 2 class, avec Blair Drawson. I’m writing a folk tale / fairy tale thing and this is one of the characters. I’m still playing with how this thing’ll work out… The Buggy Lady is another one for the same project. This are conceptual thingies only for the moment, and the designs may change.

For those interested in that type of thing, I post the sketch.

Since Ilya is going to be missing Blair’s class tomorrow (and he’ll miss the bugginess), I figgered I’d post this up here for all to see.
