I’m a trendy tote bag

A gift for my boyfriend. Materials: Sculpey and Tamiya Poisonous Killer Lacquer paints (for painting resin statues, garage kits, and mecha).
If you’re interested in seeing the process, more pics are after the jump.

Homsar has been nicely baked in the oven in this pic. Possibly too baked. I’d baked him once before, only to discover he wouldn’t stand up properly; I’d sculpted the feet and body separately because his little legs were too soft and squishy to hold up his bulky torso. After I made this unpleasant realization I constructed little Sculpey support booties on top of his inadequate, gimpy feet and baked him again. He seems to be doing okay now. And yet notice how his feet are lighter than the rest of him and his hat is pretty much toast.

Here I’ve sprayed him with Tamiya’s Fine Surface Primer. I did it in the dead of night on my front porch wearing a double-barrelled gas mask (the primer comes in a spray can) with green surgical gloves and a black, bathrobe-style sweater on. My sister came home at this point and thought there is a terrorist mutant mad scientist grafitti artist tagging our porch. Hilarity ensued. I prefer Gunze’s Mr. White Surfacer 1000, it coats and smooths better.
Thanks to all the rockin’ Homestarrunner fans who’ve given me more hits on my site than my freelance illustration postcard promo that cost me $$$. That makes me feel… good… also a little bad… it’s complex.
One of my favourite Decemberween costumes of all time is Homestar’s “Karate Kid” costume. So to commemorate my boyfriend’s fourth degree black belt in karate (which he got October 21 ‘06) I’ve done a little painting of it. Go to my site and click on page 2 of “sketches” to check it out. Eye of the Tiger!
