FontStruct!

June 6th, 2008 in digital + designs + news

I found this thing on the internet and it looks like a lot of fun!

It’s a really neat online tool for making fonts. You can make your own type set and save it as TrueType folder, as well as downloading and using other people’s creations under the a Creative Commons license (and sharing yours, too!).

You can visit the site here.

Green Oscars

Just wanted to wish everyone a terrific 2008. This was for Plenty magazine, for an article on movies they nominated for their First Annual Eco Awards. Among the movies were Darjeeling Limited, Snakes on a Plane, and Shrek. Roll out the green carpet!

Global Warming Poster Contest and Blog

Here’s a great project for an important issue. Sponsored by Moveable Inc., The Gas Company, Krups, and Applied Arts, it’s a chance for all sorts of artsy people to create an image to raise awareness of global warming.

Every entry will be posted on this blog , and three talented people will get their posters printed up for reals. And one lucky person will get a prize package from Krups, consisted of two really nifty appliances that any artist could appreciate: espresso machine and blender, both designed by renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. Oh, and the winning image will be published in Applied Arts.

Deadline for entry is January 25, 2008.

So get cracking!

Homemade Butters

My Butters

So, I went down to Silver Snail to buy my boyfriend the new Butters figure for Christmas. But when I saw it I thought it was lousy. He’s all ashy and although the articulate eyebrows are a cool idea, I think they’re too thick. And he’s tiny!

So I dug up the Sculpey and fashioned my own. Pretty much the same deal as with my homebrew Homsar, only instead of using the deadly gaseous lacquer paints I went with healthier Acryla gouache (the consistency of gouache with the permanence of acrylics! Everyone wins!), which is much easier to work with.

A few of my favourite things

My favourite things

Did up this card for my last illustration assignment of my academic career. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s the heavenly awesomeness of never having to wake up at 5:15am in the morning ever again. One more ridiculous early morning to go!

Here’s something I was working on before school started — I’m not sure when I’m going to get a chance to screenprint it.

Honey is gross.

Here’s a new piece that goes with that personal series I’ve been working on (the Portland Mercury cover is another one in that series).

Oh, and I’ve also been updating my site pretty much weekly with sketches and things. I’ll upload the odd one or two on rasterform, but I doubt we want the blog inundated with my junk.
