I made him for my girlfriend because she enjoys those monkey creatures. It has a vaguely defined jetpack.

Another painting for my La Luz show in August… sorry for the slightly half-ass photo - I shot this one at home with my digital, as I’ll be doing a pro-shoot of all the work closer to the date of the show.

New painting

Some of you guys know already, but La Luz de Jesus Gallery in L.A. has offered me a spot in their 6-person show in August, which is pretty exciting.
So, this here painting is the first one I have done to go down there.
30″ x 30″, oil on canvas.
(If anyone has any ideas for new paintings to throw at me, I welcome them all - especially relevant ones that could fit my style/similar direction to this one. I have three months, and need to produce work on a kind of back to back basis from now till then).

This painting is headed down to La Luz de Jesus Gallery in L.A. in March. The idea I’m toying with here is creation coupled with destruction; a prerequisite for rebirth is death… lots of symbols here and there and such.

Departure

24″ x 30″, Oil on canvas painting for Yesterland, a show I had with Cameron earlier in the fall in Ottawa. I used a size 2 and 4 filbert brush for the whole thing (to you not “down” with brush-and-paint tactics, these are quite small).
My series for the show has to do with ironic evolution, nature & technology, and other themes and ideas heavy-laden with subtle and not-so-subtle symbolism… more to come (I’ve continued this line of paintings after the show was taken down).

Some more playing with Painter… i still don’ t know how to use it completely, but i think i like that. i think i don’t want to formally teach myself Painter and just discover things by accident. it’s fun and exilerating not knowing what will happen. too much training can be a bad thing i think…
